AUTOMATIC GREASING SYSTEMS

The Monobuoy Company can offer all kinds of solutions for the automatic greasing of Main Roller Bearings, Swivel Bearings and other articulations and bearings.

All our Grease Systems have been developed in association with Dropsa Spa, a world leader in lubrication equipment and are carefully designed for the offshore enviromnment.

All the systems are certified ExN, suitable for Zone 2 hazardous areas.

Special attention has been given to the buoy systems, to ensure simple, reliable operation. A design feature is that the reservoirs are totally weatherproof, eliminating the possibility of water entering the grease circuit. If fact our systems will operate even when submerged.

However, we have developed 3 different kinds of systems specifically for buoys and FSO/FPSOs

Buoy Electric System - Eagle Eye

The Monobuoy Company has developed Eagle Eye, an automatic programmable greasing system specially designed to grease the bearings of Monobuoys and SPMs.

Grease is stored in a pressurised sealed reservoir holding 32kgs of grease. Multiple reservoirs can be installed to give increased capacity. The reservoir can be mounted anywhere on the rotating part of the buoy, however it is preferable to be mounted in a protected location to reduce the risk of mechanical damage. The reservoir is fitted with a shut-off and safety valve. The reservoir supplies grease to the Control Valve, located in a protected location, usually inside the turntable structure.

At regular programmable intervals (usually twelve hours), the control valves opens and the metering valve delivers a precisely measured quantity of grease. This grease is evenly distributed into the various bearings via stainless steel distributors.

A Control Panel, conveniently located on the turntable, houses the Controller with its internal batteries, Pressure Gauge to show grease level and refilling connection.

Periodically the reservoir must be refilled and this is a very simple operation. A pneumatic or electric grease pump is carried on the workboat. This pump fits onto a standard grease drum. The workboat transfers a man and a ˝" hose, the end of which is connected to the quick coupling on the buoy. The refilling pump then operates and fills the reservoir as indicated by the pressure gauge on the buoy. It will take less than one hour to fully fill a standard reservoir.

Grease filters are fitted in the pump to prevent contaminants entering the various bearings.

Buoy Air System

The Monobuoy Company has developed a pneumatically powered system powered from scuba divers bottles. Like the original “Eagle Eye” system, it is an automatic programmable greasing system specially designed to grease the bearings of Monobuoys and SPMs.

Grease is stored in a sealed reservoir holding 30kgs of grease. This reservoir is refilled using a quick connector and a hand or pneumatic transfer pump. Grease filters are fitted in the inlet to prevent contaminants entering the reservoir.

Two scuba-diver bottles provide air for both the pump and the pneumatic logic circuit. This circuit has been carefully designed to minimise air usage, and the system typically has an autonomy of 6 months before the scuba bottles need recharging.

At regular programmable intervals (usually 24 hours), the system operates and grease is send down to the stainless steel injectors. After a predetermined number of injections has occured, the system stops.

A pushbutton is fitted to operate the system manually.

Low grease level, pump failure are handled by a fault detection system.

Instrument links to a telemetry system are possible, and the standard instrumentation is grease flow pulse, fault pulse and system pressure

FPSO Air System

The Monobuoy Company has developed an automatic greasing system specifically for FSOs & FPSOs.

The system has been designed to grease the main bearing, swivel stack bearings and hinges/articulations bushes.

The system uses utility air for both it’s power and automation functions. It operates either automatically or manually. In auto mode it can be programmed to operate from 1 hour to 9999 hour intervals. Further, the amount of grease delivered to each grease point during each operation can be fully regulated making the system totally adjustable.

Low grease level, pump failure are handled by a fault detection system.

Instrument links to central control room are possible, and the standard instrumentation is grease flow pulse, fault pulse and system pressure
